Lawyers raise concerns over amount of time migrant children spend at Albion intake shelter
According to this article on News Channel 3, by Michael Krafcik
“ALBION, Mich. — Several hundred undocumented migrant children have been through an emergency intake site set up at the former Starr Commonwealth campus in Albion before being reunited with family.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Refugee Resettlement opened the Albion emergency intake shelter in April 2021 as a record number of children fled violence from Central America and crossed the U.S. southern border. The Albion facility is one of nine emergency intake shelters set up by the federal government, which has 15,000 unaccompanied migrant children in its care, as of July 15.
Lawyers representing detained children in federal immigration custody have long-standing concerns children are staying too long in unlicensed government facilities, including Albion.”
