White House confirms Biden to host Trudeau, López Obrador next week

According to this article on Politico, by DOUG PALMER
“President Joe Biden will host Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador at the White House on Thursday, Nov. 18, for the first North American Leaders’ Summit since 2016, the White House said on Wednesday.
What’s on the agenda: “During the Summit, the United States, Mexico, and Canada will reaffirm their strong ties and integration while also charting a new path for collaboration on ending the Covid-19 pandemic and advancing health security; competitiveness and equitable growth, to include climate change; and a regional vision for migration,” the White House said in a statement.
What’s in the background: The meeting comes as Biden is being pressured by Republicans to take more aggressive action to deal with the flood of immigrants trying to cross the U.S. southern border. Business groups and lawmakers have also raised concerns about actions taken by López Obrador’s administration that they say threaten U.S. agricultural exports and energy investments in Mexico.”

Trump Appointed Hundreds of Judges. Fear of Their Rulings May Be Holding Back Biden on Executive Orders

According to this article on Time, by Brian Bennett and Abigail Abrams
“President Biden has been on a blitz of issuing presidential executive orders. Earlier this month, he signed his 94th order, one aimed at helping women travel to other states for abortions and finding ways for those eligible to access Medicaid coverage. Before that he signed orders that sought to help bring hostages home, end labor disputes, protect access to reproductive health care, counter anti-LGBTQ state legislation and address police misconduct.
Not since Jimmy Carter has a president issued as many orders at Biden’s pace, according to a tally kept by the University of Santa Barbara’s American Presidency Project. Yet for some progressives, Biden isn’t wielding that power nearly as strongly as he could. Not only on abortion, but also on immigration, the climate, and gun safety, lawmakers and activists are pressuring the President to act more assertively by signing more expansive orders that push policy in the direction they want it to go.”
