‘Remain in Mexico’ drags on despite Supreme Court decision
According to this article on The San Diego Union-Tribune, by Kate Morrissey, Ana Ramirez
“More than a month after the Supreme Court ruled, in a surprise decision, that the Biden administration could end the “Remain in Mexico” program, not much has changed for the asylum seekers forced to wait for their U.S. immigration cases in Mexico.
Many hoped that this week would finally bring clarity for the thousands waiting in the program because the Supreme Court’s order was anticipated to be handed down to the lower courts. After some initial slow-walking by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in what should have been a perfunctory document hand-off, the order finally reached the district court on Saturday.
But it is still not clear how long people enrolled in the program could have to wait for answers to questions that could mean momentous change in their lives: if, when and how the program will once again be terminated.”
